BJP leader Yoga Ramesh, who was recently appointed president of the party’s Hassan district unit, assumed office in the presence of the party’s senior leaders in Hassan on Monday. Mr. Ramesh, who contested for the State Assembly in 2013 as an Independent, joined the BJP one-and-a-half years ago.

Former minister Shobha Karandlaje, who took part in the programme, called upon the workers to strengthen the party’s base in the district. “The BJP will come to power in the next elections. B.S. Yeddyurappa will become the Chief Minister. To achieve this goal, we should win 150 seats. And, Hassan should contribute at least five seats,” she said. “The party’s Hassan district unit has got a new president, who is young and enthusiastic. He needs the cooperation of every worker in the party,” she added.

Senior BJP leader B.B. Shivappa suggested that the party leaders take the seniors into confidence while building the party. “The BJP has all it needs to assume power in the next election. The Congress has been losing popularity because of its misdeeds. The Janata Dal (Secular) is losing its ground too. And, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programmes are reaching the public all over the country. These things are sure to work in favour of the party,” he said.

Workers support

Mr. Ramesh said he would depend on the cooperation of the workers to strengthen the party in the district. “If we work together and strengthen our organisation, we can win all seven constituencies in the district,” he said.
