Police clearances to be made online

To make the police people-friendly, Superintendent of Police Harishankar has come out with certain innovative ideas and schemes.

At a press meet organised by the Pathanamthitta Press Club on Monday, Mr. Harishankar said issuing police clearances would be made online by mid-July to avoid rush at the office of the District Superintendent of Police. He said a Kochi team was developing the software for the facility and the scheme would be launched in Kannur and Pathanamthitta districts.

Mobile app

A mobile application too would be made available and applicants could register online to get a verification code.

Using this code, the applicant could verify the status of the application and download the clearances, he said.

The new Superintendent of Police said the facility could be made available at Akshaya centres too.

Mr. Harishankar said a registration desk had been opened for migrant labourers at police stations in the district in view of their alleged involvement in crimes reported from the State.

Contractors employing migrant workers and owners of labour camps and other lodging facilities in the district should register the name and address of all their tenants at the police station concerned. He said they could register and update data on Sundays.

Mr. Harishankar said municipalities and grama panchayats should bring all migrant workers under a health insurance scheme and issue health cards to them to ensure that the data collection was foolproof.

Sabarimala pilgrims

He said the police were bound to ensure the safety of pilgrims and foolproof security at Sabarimala. Six teams had been constituted to improve the efficiency of the force at Sabarimala and Pampa during the Mandalam- Makaravilakku pilgrim season.

He said people could dial ‘1090’ and pass on information to the district police authority through the Crime Stopper Cell.
