Police may probe surrogacy angle
Pune: The Hadapsar police on Monday said they were questioning three women suspects over surrogacy issues which surfaced after the kidnapping and murder of Madhu alias Madhumati Thakur (22) of Vaiduwadi.
On Sunday, police had arrested Nikita Sanjay Kangne (30), Chandrabhaga Krushna Udanshu (35) and Laxmi alias Pinky Balaji Jadhav (19) and Akash Krushna Udanshu (19), all residents of Hadapsar.
On Monday, they arrested Maya More of Kalepadal in Hadapsar from Jamkhed in Ahmednagar district, said senior inspector Anjum Bagwan of the Hadapsar station.
Police said Kangne allegedly hatched the plot to kidnap Thakur and her baby two months ago. The women befriended Thakur under the pretext of taking care of her. On Friday, they allegedly kidnapped and killed her in a room in Kalepadal. They hid the child in another room and were looking for a buyer when police nabbed them.
During questioning, Kangne and Jadhav confessed that they have donated their eggs for fertilization at a centre in Pune. "Kangne had taken Jadhav for the same purpose. It is suspected that Kangne had taken other women from the slums. It is legal to donate the eggs for fertilization. But we want to know if they were coerced or lured with money," Bagwan said.
