Heavy rains in city only after June 25, says IMD official
Nagpur: Monsoon has officially arrived in the entire Vidarbha on Monday, but the city might have to wait till June 25 to get drenched in rainfall. On Sunday, monsoon entered the city along Chandrapur, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Wardha and Yavatmal, while on Monday it arrived in all the remaining districts of the region. The city received no showers on Monday while Akola district got the highest rainfall in the region at 41.2mm.
Buldhana received the second highest rainfall at 13mm and rest of the districts received meagre rainfall. “Rainfall at Akola and Buldhana will be continuous for the next two days,” an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.
After the city experienced 21mm rainfall on June 17, the momentum moved westwards because of which Akola, Amravati and Madhya Pradesh will get heavy rainfall. According to the forecast, by June 25, more than 50% of Vidarbha will be getting rainfall.
The IMD official said, “Nagpur will experience mild rainfall for another few days. We are expecting heavy rainfall only after June 25.”
Southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of central, Arabian Sea, Konkan, Marathwada and Vidarbha. Most parts of central Maharashtra, some parts of south west Madhya Pradesh and east Madhya Pradesh. Conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon in central Maharashtra and some parts of Madhya Pradesh, the official said.
Maximum temperature in the city on Monday was 35.8 degrees Celsius, which was exactly normal, while the minimum temperature was 27.2 degrees Celsius which was two degrees below normal. There was 1.5 degree rise in maximum temperature and 2.4 degree rise in minimum temperature.
