The Cubs have placed outfielder Dexter Fowler on the 15-day disabled list due to right hamstring discomfort, Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago reports. The club recalled pitcher Carl Edwards, Jr. from Triple-A Iowa.

Fowler left Saturday’s game against the Pirates after tweaking his hamstring running out a ground out. He lands on the sidelines after hitting a terrific .290/.398/.483 with seven home runs and 28 RBI in 284 plate appearances.

Albert Almora, Jr. is starting in center field on Monday night. Jason Heyward could see some time in center as well.

Edwards, 24, put up a 4.26 ERA with a 35/17 K/BB ratio in 25 1/3 innings at Iowa. He briefly pitched in the majors last year, giving up two earned runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings in September.
