Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and its technology partner Silverlake Digital Economy (SDE) have been named as winners for Best Smart Branch Project for 2016 during the 10th Asian Banker Technology Innovation Awards Programme. The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with the prestigious award winning Asian Banker Summit 2016, the foremost annual meeting for decision makers in the financial services industry in the Asia Pacific region, at the JW Marriott, Hanoi, Vietnam on 11 May.

The bank deployed a digital banking platform with paperless processes and integrated sales, which improved customer experience

BIBD deployed Silverlake’s Digital Bank Platform for reengineered business services. This enabled it to have an automated and integrated, paperless, PC and Tablet based sales and service system. Implementation improved customer experience by reducing timeframes and reducing administrative activities, which enabled the staff to focus more on sales and showcasing products. The bank also introduced unique features of shopping basket concept to enable ‘pick and choose’ accounts and services, marketing e-brochures and video demonstrations. These also enabled swift data capture of the customer’s information. Paperless process was facilitated with electronic documentation management and imaging of signature, photo and ID.

Banks cross sell rate, customer on-boarding and market share have significantly improved following the implementation.

The project brought significant improvement in customer experience. The cross sell rate improved from 50% to 90%, the market share increased by 5% and the number of customers transacting increased by 15% following the project implementation.

The open end architecture was successfully implemented within three months

The architecture of the system is three tier, open technology (web/app/db server), integrated with core banking and front end system. The system was successfully implemented within a short time frame of three months.

The Asian Banker Technology Innovation Awards Programme, refereed by prominent global bankers, IT consultants and academics, provides an undisputed benchmark of technology implementation in an increasingly fierce marketplace. Every year the program attracts a substantial number of submissions, describing a range of innovative solutions that demonstrate how IT can deliver significant benefits to the business of banking.
