Aligarh: After protesting against the police for not allowing the Arya Veer Dal’s march because the outfit did not have permission to conduct it, some BJP leaders again had a confrontation with the police at Madar Gate over conducting late night prayers. Police stopped the ‘ratri jagran’ because the community did not have the required permission for holding it on the road.

While an idol had been placed at the site, it was time for quran recital by Muslim in the neighbourhood just a few steps from the Madar Gate outpost. There was an argument between the two communities and soon police reached the spot to control the situation. The members of the Vyapar Mandal of the area were told to remove the idols from the street as they had no permission. Within minutes BJP leaders with mayor Shakuntala Bharti reached the spot, leading to a confrontation with police.
Station officer of Gandhi Park Sanjay Pandey said that two FIRs were filed in this incident, one is against 250 people and the other against 150 for attacking the police, rioting, damaging property and other charges. Circle officer Rajeev Kumar said, "There was no permission for this event so we asked them to remove the arrangements. We averted a communal clash by quick action. Things are under control now and there is police presence at 24 spots to avoid any untoward incident."
Mayor Bharti said, "The anger of the people is justified. Now we will have to seek permission for holding ‘ratri jagran’, while Muslims can come out on the road for namaz without permission. This is discrimination."
