25 water supply schemes under execution in Ganderbal: Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi

Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi today informed that 25 Water Supply Schemes (WSS) at the total estimated cost of Rs 66.3 crore are under execution in the jurisdiction of water Supply Division Ganderbal. Replying to a question by Mr Muhammad Ashraf Mir, the Minister informed that out of these 25 water supply schemes, nine schemes have been targeted for completion during the current fiscal. He said that remaining 16 WSS would be targeted for  completion in a phased manner as per availability of funds.The Minister said that Rs 13.66 crore have been utilized for procurement of PHE stocks in Kangan, Ganderbal, Hazratbal, Sonawar and Eidgah, besides Rs 1.12 crore have been incurred on mantainence of WSS in the said areas.In reply to another question by Mr Abdul Majid Padder, the Minister informed that 63 filtration plants are in Kulgam district, out of which 30 are functional, 9 are partially functional and 24 are non-functional.The Minister said that 12 filtration plants are in Noorabad constituency, out of which 6 are functional, 2 are partially functional and 4 are non-functional. He said to make these filtration plants fully functional, there is a requirement of Rs 68 lakh, adding that the Department will take every possible step for making these fully functional in a phased manner.

The Minister said that 57 WSS are under execution in district Kulgam under different programmes. He said as far as the Noorabad constituency is concerned, there are 23 WSS under execution under district Sector CAPEX Budget and NRDWP. He said that  construction work of 6 WSS would be completed during current financial year where as the construction work of other WSS will be completed/commissioned within the time-frame of 2 to 3 years, subject to availability of funds.Mr Shiekh Ishfaq Jabbar, Mr Yawar Ahmad Mir, Mr Noor Muhammad Shiekh and Mr Mubarak Gul raised  supplementaries to the main question.Responding to the supplementaries, the Minister said that necessary steps would be taken to provide tap water to the people of Rafiabad constituency, adding that upgradation of filtration Plants in the area would be considered. He said that the concerned authorities of PHE would be directed to ensure safe drinking water supply in all areas of Batamaloo constituency. He said that the Government would examine laying of alternate pipeline from Rangil Water Supply Scheme, which would address the water crisis within Srinagar city and its suburbs.
