Filmfare Awards: Puneeth and Parul are best actors
When you have the best in the business of filmmaking 'including biggies like Chiranjeevi, Mohan Babu, Puneeth Rajkumar, Allu Arjun, Dhanush, Suriya and Ram Charan, among many others ' in attendance for an evening recognizing their work, there's bound to be fireworks, what with all the star power, glitz and glamour they bring along.
The 63rd Britannia Filmfare Awards South at the Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre on Saturday was where all the action was ' with stars setting the red carpet on fire, proud award winners admiring their black ladies, and some crackling performances.
Not to forget Filmfare regular emcee couple Chinmayi and Rahul Ravindran, who had the audience literally eating out of their hands with their playful and very engaging banter through the night.
KANNADA TO THE FORE
Sandalwood's big winner for the evening was RangiTaranga, 2015's sleeper hit, which took home four Black Ladies, including Best Film and Best Director, among others. In a year that produced several stellar performances, it was only apt that the acting categories had popular and critics' choice sections. While Puneeth Rajkumar's action-packed outing in Ranavikrama got him the Best Actor (Male) award, Parul Yadav's performance in the ensemble drama Aatagaara got her the Best Actor (Female) award.
Sanchari Vijay's National Award-winning role in Naanu Avanalla Avalu made him the unanimous choice of the critics for Best Actor. From making a film that was unsure of even a week's run at the box office to gearing up to celebrate its year-long outing, newbie director Anup Bhandary has much to cheer for, and his win as Best Director made the evening extra special for him. Adding to his team's kitty of awards were veteran actor Saikumar, who got a Best Supporting Actor award, and Inchara Rao, whose soulful rendition of Kareyole got her a Best Singer (Female) award. Overall though, barring a few popular names, most of the awards for Kannada cinema were bagged by first-timers.
