Samjautha blasts: India proposes court along Wagah-Attari border

New Delhi, June 20: India will set up a make shift court along the Wagah-Attari border to examine witnesses from Pakistan in connection with the Samjautha Express blasts. The trial in the case has commenced and is at a very crucial stage.

There is a need to examine the Pakistani witnesses in the case and hence this make shift court is being set up.

In the blast a majority of those killed were from Pakistan. The NIA which investigated this case has identified several witnesses from Pakistan proposes to call them in and have them testify.

The NIA will now move the Punjab and Haryana High Court and seek permission to set up the make shift court along the Wagah-Attari border.

In the ongoing trial so far around 200 witnesses have been examined by the court. The trial is currently on at the Panchakula court. Nearly 200 witnesses have testified so far. However once the make shift court is set up, the NIA will bring in 13 witnesses from Pakistan to testify.

NIA officials say that they would try to bring the Pakistan witnesses to the court at Panchakula. However there are bound to be some hiccups and this procedure could be very long.

For the Pakistani witnesses the court along the border would be more feasible and hence a court along the border had been proposed. We are discussing it with the home ministry and once we get the green signal we will approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the official also added.
