Gurgaon: It was a Sunday well spent for many as rock band Parikrama's lead guitarist Sonam Sherpa enthralled over a dozen kids at the Gurgaon for Kids music workshop. He taught them the importance of dedication and practice when it comes to music, among other things.
"Perseverance is the most important thing in music," said Sherpa. "If you're really passionate about it, you must keep on practising.
If you like playing an instrument, play it while watching TV or using the computer. If you are singing, widen your spectrum and sing all kinds of songs. It takes years of practice to become a musician," he added.
The workshop began with a Q&A round, where children asked questions on topics ranging from guitar chords to the scale of a voice and music notes. Sherpa answered each one and taught them theoretical aspects of music.
The enthusiastic children also showcased their skills, and Sherpa gave them important tips on how to brush up on them. Kriti Malik (11), who played guitar and sang, said, "The workshop was amazing. The topics Sherpa Sir spoke on and the lessons he shared with us were interesting and useful. I'm happy I got a chance to attend this workshop."
While jamming with the kids, Sherpa made them sing notes of music and taught them different kinds of notes and scales in Western and Indian classical music. "These small things are often overlooked but important. If you know these basics and work hard, you can become successful in the field," he added.
Vedant Bhatia (12), who plays drums and guitar, said, "It was good to learn various techniques from Sherpa Sir, and also learn a bit of theory involved in music."
The workshop ended with Sherpa playing a song for the children.
