Entally 'shooter' may be police informer
Kolkata: Going by the police's own admission, Entally goons Babloo and Bapi have been bitter enemies for years, with their gangs ending up shooting at each other four times this year. But every time the gang members were arrested, they received bail in a jiffy.
Residents alleged this was strange, given that some of the bigger criminals from adjoining Beliaghata and Narkeldanga, who commanded local political clout, stayed much longer behind bars.

The reason, said detective department officers, was that these men had direct access to the eastern suburban division's police stations. In fact, such is their clout that local MLA Swarnakamal Saha has even threatened to report about police inaction to chief minister Mamata Banerjee, also in charge of the home department. "The main accused, identified as Md Niyazul, is a police informer. He is now the only middleman who can get a "settlement" done between the local police and builders. The building involved was illegal, but no one ever asked the developer to stop construction after Niyazul took him to the local police station two years ago," a source said. "In everything the gangs did, they needed a reason to indulge in violence. In this case, it was an illegal building with 15 flats, which they sold to at least 40 stakeholders. We approached KMC but to no avail," the police said. But KMC officials claimed they were not alerted.
The investigation revealed that Niyazul was close to both the warring gangs. "He hired from both gangs. "He had become the last word in illegal constructions on Convent Road, Motijheel Road and Pottery Road along with Bibirbagan."
The police are verifying the other alleged criminal links of Niyazul, like connection with drug peddlers, including Bapi. Both wanted to control the local drug racket, dealing in ganja and heroin.
