Kolkata: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) busted an international gang involved in smuggling charas - a banned substance - from Nepal to Hong Kong via Kolkata and Siliguri.
NCB officers arrested six persons from Kolkata and Delhi on Arpil 9 for alleged involvement with the racket. Those arrested include three Nepal citizens and a woman.
"The smugglers used noodles cartons and then cut open its base.
The charas was packed in to the carton using carbon paper and the upper layer of the base resealed using coffee water to stop the smell from escaping. Several religious books and marriage cards were packed atop to hide the main item below. The consignments reached Siliguri where the packaging was done for Kolkata," claimed an NCB officer.
The recovery of about 8 kg charas at Delhi's IGI Airport on April 8 led the investigators to the racket. "We are trying to nab the kingpins of the racket sitting in Nepal and Hong Kong taking the help of the Interpol," said the officer.
