Residents launch protest, Supertech hands over maintenance to RWA
Noida: A protest on Sunday by nearly 200 residents of Supertech's Emerald Court against its RWA not being given charge of maintenance yielded an immediate result as the developer announced a handover of the society's upkeep duties.
The RWA of the housing society in Noida's Sector 93A had earlier taken on the developer on the construction of two residential towers in Phase-2 of the project - Apex and Ceyane - which they allege was in construction of building norms.
A legal battle followed, and the Allahabad high court ordered the two towers demolished. The case has since moved to the Supreme Court, which has stayed the high court order as it holds hearings.
Supertech conveyed its decision to hand over maintenance to the Emerald Court RWA through a media note after a sit-down demonstration by residents of the apartment complex, which saw its first occupants move in eight years ago, though it wasn't another six years till the RWA was formed.
The RWA also demanded that the developer expedite the renewal of its no objection certificate (NoC) from the fire department, and an interest-free maintenance charge of approximately Rs 8 crore, deposited with the company, be transferred to the RWA so that it can carry out upkeep duties.
"We have been demanding that the maintenance be handed over to us," said Bharat Chopra, a senior member of the Emerald Court RWA. "We have been facing problems in parking too. The NoC awarded by the fire department to us has also lapsed, so we staged a sit-down protest to discuss all these issues. We want the builder to transfer all maintenance funds that residents have given them, which we can use for the upkeep of Emerald court," Chopra added.
The Supertech management reacted quickly, writing in a media note that it had handed over facility maintenance management of Emerald Court to its RWA effective June 17.
"The decision to take over the project's maintenance by ECO (Emerald Court) RWA was a long-pending matter which is now resolved. This decision will make our residents happy and content. We also assure that in the future as well we shall guide and support you whenever our assistance is sought," PK Goel, director, Supertech, stated in the press note. The Supertech management agreed to transfer accounts and relevant documents to the RWA.
