Dibrugarh: In a major breakthrough, three Ulfa(Independent) militants and a Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) rebel were apprehended by the security forces at Chabua in Dibrugarh district while they were on their way to Myanmar from Meghalaya on Saturday night. Based on intelligence inputs, a joint search operation by police, 19 JAT Army regiment and 171 CRPF battalion, led by Dibrugarh deputy superintendent of police (HQ) Pradip Saikia, was launched at Chetiapathar village in Chabua around 11.30pm.
The four rebels were caught unaware and nabbed at a house in the village where they were taking shelter.

Dibrugarh SP Bir Bikram Gogoi on Sunday said the preliminary interrogations revealed that four militants were halting at Chetiapathar village in Chabua, on their way to Arakan Camp (first brigade) located in Myanmar. Chabua is the birth place and home of fugitive Ulfa (I) commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah.
"During preliminary interrogations they had revealed that they were coming from Tura in Meghalaya to go to Myanmar on the orders of Ulfa (I) deputy commander-in-chief Drishti Rajkhowa. They were waiting for their guide to take them to Myanmar," the SP added.
The Ulfa (I) militants were identified as Ritupon Borah alias Irfan Asom alias August (23), Dipon Moran alias Prithiviraj Asom (25) and Nakul Rabha alias Bishal Asom (18). The GNLA cadre was identified as Saltiush N Marak alias Chem (21), a resident of Belabor village in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.
Ritupon Borah is from Chabua Pulunga gaon in Dibrugarh, Dipon Moran from old Motapung gaon in Tinsukia and Nakul Rabha hails from Amtola village in Goalpara district.
According to Indian intelligence agencies, at least 60 big to medium size camps of northeast insurgent groups like Ulfa (I), NDFB (S), NSCN (K), KYKL and PLA are operating from Myanmar. The two countries share a 1,643km-long-border - Arunachal Pradesh (520km), Mizoram (510km), Manipur (398km) and Nagaland (215km).
