Central boost to Arunachal's Digital Mission

Itanagar: The Digital Mission of Arunachal Pradesh received a major fillip after a detailed roadmap was agreed upon by the Centre on Thursday. The deliberation involved a team led by state chief secretary Shakuntala D Gamlin and included the secretary of the department of electronics and information technology (DeitY), Aruna Sharma, NIC director general Nita Verma and their respective officers.The meeting took place at Electronics Niketan, New Delhi.
The purpose of the high-level strategy meeting, which was attended by top decision-makers, was to address the various issues and bottlenecks related to IT, e-governance and telecom in the state, an official communique said here on Sunday.
The chief secretary briefed those present about the status of various core infrastructure projects - including National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN), State Wide Area Network (SWAN), Supervisory Development Centre (SDC), Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) and National Knowledge Network (NKN) - saying that though these projects were in traction within the state, their progress was slow.
Gamlin urged DeitY to strengthen the infrastructure comprehensively.
Till optical fibre connectivity comes to the state, alternate connectivity technology by usage of satellite capabilities of the Centre was also agreed upon. VSATs will be established in 100 administrative centres fully funded by Centre, expected to be rolled out in the next six months.
