CPI urges centre to fulfil CM's wishes
Coimbatore: CPI state secretary R Mutharasan on Sunday urged the Central government to seriously consider all the demands made by chief minister J Jayalalithaa to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her visit to Delhi earlier this month.
Mutharasan, who was in the city, told reporters that Jayalalithaa had submitted a dossier containing 29 demands to Modi when she met him in Delhi recently.
"The demands like preventing construction of dam across Cauvery in Mekedatu, retrieval of Katchatheevu and protection of life and livelihood of fishermen are not just Jayalalithaa's demands, but that of the entire population of Tamil Nadu. So, the Centre should fulfil these demands," he said.
The CPI leader also hit out at Jayalalithaa over row regarding seating arrangements for opposition leaders in the state assembly. "The Dravidian parties should stop raising individual issues in the House and instead focus on problems faced by public," Mutharasan said, adding, "The CM did not appear to be concerned about rising prices of vegetables."
