A hunt is on to trace the bear which entered patta lands near Ariyappapuram village in Nanguneri taluk and caused panic among the people on Saturday.

. The coordinated efforts of forest officials and police to tranquilise the wild animal failed on Saturday, as the animal attacked the search team and managed to escape.

The combing operation was on with the participation of 24 persons, including wildlife officials, anti-poaching watchers and volunteers.

A 25-sq-km area around the spot where the bear was sighted was covered. The team found footprints of the bear at Therkku Nellaiappapuram. An anti-poaching watcher and a veterinary doctor, who sustained injuries during their efforts to net the animal, were undergoing treatment.
