National legal framework for refugees demanded

Chennai: Ahead of World Refugee Day on Monday, activists have appealed to the Centre to come up with a concrete national legal framework to ensure the rights of refugees in the country.
To mark the day, a panel discussion was held at D G Vaishnav College in collaboration with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Chennai.
The three speakers on the panel were Michael Satchidananda Valan, Associate Repatriation Officer, UNHCR Chennai, V Suryanarayan, former professor and director of South and South East Asian Studies, University of Madras, and Natesa Lingam, an advocate of Sri Lankan Tamil refugee rights.tnn
