Jalalabad: Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh started his electoral campaign 'Halqe Vich Captain' from deputy chief minister (CM) Sukhbir Singh Badal's constituency, Jalalabad, on Sunday. The Congress claimed that it received 2,600 complaints during the event in which the former chief minister also interacted with people.
Amarinder described the "heavy turnout of complainants" as a reflection of the "governance of the SAD-BJP government and plight of people at Sukhbir's turf".
"If the plight of people living in the deputy CM's constituency can be so pitiable, what will be the condition of the rest of the state?" he asked.
Amarinder first heard people who came with complaints and then made these the ground "to highlight people's plight" and attack Sukhbir and the SAD-BJP government.
Amarinder said that he was told by the people that Sukhbir was inaccessible. "He could not bother to visit the village where 37 farmers committed suicide in his own assembly segment. How much will he be bothered or interested about the rest of the state?" he said, adding that this indicated that Sukhbir was planning to not contest from Jalalabad.
Attacking Sukhbbir for "completely losing touch with his constituents", he held that the deputy CM was now exploring the options of fighting from Maur Mandi in Bathinda.
Jaitley takes a dig at Capt: Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday attacked Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh over his family's foreign accounts. Jaitley said, "I recall when there was the Congress government in Punjab in 2002, led by Amarinder, he used to cook up stories about the Badal family. He failed to prove the claims, but we have found accounts of Captain sahib's family," Jaitley said.
