Australian police are searching for a Canadian tourist believed missing since at least the end of May.

Maxime Gagnon, 29, was last confirmed to be in Cairns, a city of about 160,000 on the northeast coast of Queensland on Friday, May 6. He has not contacted family or friends since then. There was an unconfirmed sighting of Gagnon in Cairns in the last week of May.

Police are concerned because the amount of time without contact is out of character.

Gagnon is described as being white, five feet 11 inches, with a “proportionate build”, blue eyes and brown hair.

Officials at the Canadian consulate in Sydney are in contact with local authorities and providing assistance, a Global Affairs spokesperson told CTVNews.ca. He said he could not say more due to privacy laws.

Anyone with information is asked to call Queensland police at 131 444 (+61 7 3055 6206 for international callers) or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 333 000.
