Pooja and Monika, both 17 years old and residents of Baliyali village in the district, have been running from pillar to post after they were shown 116 years old in their Class X marksheets. The girls had passed their Class X examination from the Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) in 2014.

“We passed our Class X examinations from the HBSE two years ago with more than 80 per cent marks, but we were taken aback when were received the marksheets from the board,” said Pooja and Monika, who are cousins.

They said that they were born in 1999, but the marksheets showed that they were born on April 3, 1800.

To get the mistake rectified, they approached their Baba Mungipa Vidhyapeeth Senior Secondary School at Bushan, but they were told that the fault lies with the board and not with the school.

Lamenting the authorities’ passive attitude, the girls said that when they approached the board officials, they hesitatingly admitted their mistake, but could not rectify it even after two years. “We had first faced difficulty in appearing for Class XII examinations, but the board permitted us,” they said who passed their Class XII in this session.

Jai Singh, a relative of the girls, stated that now they had to get admission in college for higher studies and if the mistake was not corrected, the college authorities might cancel their admission. He said that they were planning to knock the door of the court for directing the board to issue them correct marksheets to avoid any trouble in future.

HBSE spokesperson Meenakshi said that the matter was not in her knowledge, but it would be resolved on the priority basis if girl students were facing problem due to some clerical error.
