Sonepat, June 19
Representatives of Antil Khap-24 today decided to protest the auctioning of ‘gaucharan’ land in Deepalpur village by the Sonepat Municipal Corporation and the inclusion of the village in the corporation.
It was decided at a meeting after the collection of Rs 22 lakh donations for distribution among the families of those who died in the Jat stir violence. Residents of Deepalpur village have been opposing merger of the village with the Sonepat Municipal Corporation for a year and opposed the auctioning of about 125 acres of gram panchayat land, claimed to be ‘gaucharan’ land, by the MC.
The authorities arranged auctioning of the land at the MC office four days ago in which farmers of Kumaspur and Mukimpur villages participated and took the land on lease. But yesterday, farmers of Deepalpur village came there with more than 60 tractors, ploughed the land. —OC
