Not many events can force you to brave a Highveld cold front. The Moët Party Day, hosted by Moët
I’m not going to lie, I had my reservations when I checked my weather app just before leaving. The outside temperature was in the low teens – and dropping.
Hosted at the swanky Four Seasons Hotel at The Westcliff last weekend, the event had a seriously elite guest list, which included Idols SA judge Somizi Mhlongo, fashion designer David Tlale, TV personality Minnie Dlamini, Luthando “Lootlove” Shosha, rapper Reason, celebrity make-up artist Nthato Mashishi, presenter Boity Thulo, presenter and actress Dineo Moeketsi, radio and TV personality Thando Thabethe, actress Amanda Du-Pont, presenter Bridget Masinga, and radio and TV presenter Lerato Kganyago (who out-danced everyone with her enviable dance moves).
The set-up was pretty simple: a fancy venue and loads of free Moët, which the guests made sure to have lots of. In fact, so much was consumed that, towards the end of the night, the bar had run dry.
After a few somewhat awkward formalities in the beginning, the partition splitting the room in half was pushed to the side to reveal that Kings of the Weekend DJs Sphectacula and Naves were on standby to get the party started. And what a party it was!
They played a great set of largely local House and hip-hop, and at some point Somizi was called up for an impromptu performance of his gospel version of Spikiri’s smash hit, Current.
Perhaps the reason the event worked so well was that it was the right amount of fancy, but also casual enough for everyone to relax and genuinely have a good time while sipping crisp champers (and real champers, daaaahling, not sparkling wine) and nibbling on sushi, oysters, the sliders and the roast on offer.
If you wanted to dance, you could dance where you were, or on the dance floor – which opened up to welcome newcomers – or have a seat and sip your drink slowly while crowd-watching and swaying.
The supply of Moët didn’t hurt either (at least not until the next morning for some).
