Brother and uncle of the former Pakistani Taliban Chief, Hakeemullah Mehsud, and four militant commanders have surrendered to the government in a tribal region, security officials said on Sunday.

Hakimullah had been killed in U.S. drone strike in North Waziristan in November, 2013.

All men handed over themselves to the authorities in Kurram tribal region, bordering Afghanistan late Saturday, a security official told Xinhua in the region.

The official said Ejaz Mehsud, brother and Khair Muhammad Mehsud, uncle of Hakeemullah as well as four Taliban commanders gave up militancy, the official said.

They surrendered at Shaheedanu Dand, a crossing point between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Officials believe they may have crossed the border from Afghanistan as "many of Taliban militants have fled to Afghanistan" as the result of military operations in the tribal regions.

An official source said there is possibility more Taliban members could also surrender in the couple of days.

All the surrendered men have been shifted to a nearby security forces' fort for questioning, a source said. Endit
