Kanpur: The death of a 13-year-old boy in an accident sparked protest at Bakarmandi area in Bajaria on Saturday.
The UPSRTC bus was damaged after it fatally knocked down Harsh Gupta, a resident of Gandhi Nagar. Passengers travelling in the bus and commuters ran for cover as they were caught in the meelee.
Harsh was on his way back home from Green Park Stadium on a bicycle, when the bus of Fazalganj depot hit him.
He died on the spot.
The residents of the area angry blocked the road tried to set the bus ablaze after thrashing the driver.
They demanded compensation for the boy's family.
The police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitators. Chaos prevailed till senior district and police officials reached there and assured the family members of prompt action.
An FIR has been lodged against the bus driver. He has been sent to jail.
