Additional chargesheet filed in Malleswaram blast case

The CCB arrested Jahan Aseer and Syed Ali in March, and another accused, Daniel Prakash, on June 13.

Bengaluru: The CCB police on Saturday submitted an additional chargesheet in connection with the Malleswaram bomb blast.

As the police have arrested three more on charges of supplying explosives, the CCB filed the additional chargesheet, which runs in to around 300 pages, before the First ACMM Court. The CCB arrested Jahan Aseer and Syed Ali in March, and another accused, Daniel Prakash, on June 13. Besides these three, the police have also named Sahul alias Paravai Basha, a suspected member of the banned terror outfit Al-Umma, in the chargesheet.

“Details of incidents that unfolded on the day of the blast have been mentioned in the chargesheet. Soon after they got the bomb, accused Panna Ismail, Police Fakruddin and Bilal Malik left on a bike from Coimbatore and reached Bengaluru. They went to the parking lot of the KSRTC bus stand in Majestic, wired up the bomb and put it in their bike. Initially they thought they would set the time for 60 minutes. But they thought they could reach Malleswaram in 15-20 minutes and set the timer for just 30 minutes. When they started at 9.50 am towards Malleswaram, they got caught in traffic. As they were scared that the bomb would go off, they violated traffic rules and reached near the BJP office around 10.15 am. They parked the bike and left in a hurry. Within five minutes, the bomb went off,” an official said.

“If the accused were late by a few minutes, they would have died in the blast,” he said.

The chargesheet also mentions that Kichan Buhari of Charitable Trust for Minorities extended financial help to Paravai Basha, and that the Al-Umma had carried out the blast targeting BJP leaders and its office.

In October 2013, the police had filed a 7,745-page chargesheet on the blast that was carried out on April 17, 2013. Eighteen people were injured, while 23 vehicles and 56 houses in the locality were damaged.
