Double murder accused slapped with MCOCA
Nagpur: Prashant Chamke and his nephew Ankush Tomaskar, booked in double murder case along with four of their kin, have been now slapped with stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) this week. Chamke, a notorious bootlegger, was externed from city in 2013.
This is the 18th case in which MCOCA has been invoked by city police this year which is highest since the inception of the enactment.
Last year there were 12 cases.
The proposal of Jaripatka police, who arrested Chamke and Tomaskar along with others, to invoke MCOCA in the case was approved by Ranjan Kumar Sharma, who is holding the charge of additional CP in city, on Friday. Chamke, Tomaskar and others were behind the murder of Imrat Rana and his elder brother Puranlal at Samta Nagar in Jaripatka over a trivial issue. In the case, Chamke’s wife Geeta and sister Vandana have also been arrested along with other relatives.
The murder had triggered a clash between police and masses leading to lathi-charge. The cops and citizens were injured during the clash. Later, Chamke had kept the cops on toes with his rowdy misdemeanour in the custody.
