15 child labourers rescued from MIDC company
Nagpur: City police have rescued 15 child labourers from Candico India Limited on Hingna Road in MIDC earlier this week following a tip-off. Around 30 labourers were scanned by police from which the minor ones were shifted to the government shelter home after the raid on Tuesday. MIDC police have now registered an offence against the management of the company.
Police sources said the labourers were coerced to operate in the manufacturing unit of the company violating the provisions under Juvenile Justice (Care and protection of children) Act.
The labourers, rescued so far, were mainly from Chandrapur, Gondia and Gadchiroli districts. The cops had also summoned the district child protection unit which registered the complaint against the management. The labour contractor too is now under scanner.
The minor labourers were also presented before the child welfare committee (CWC) by MIDC police.
