Jats give Haryana till August 31 to meet their demands

AIJASS president Yashpal Malik said, “We have given Haryana government time till August 31 and if our demands are not fulfilled by then, we will review our strategy in our annual rally at Mayyar (in Hisar district) on September 13.”

He added that the decision of the Samiti will be conveyed to the people on dharna in 15 districts of the state.

The AIJASS and their supporters have been on dharna since June 5 in wait of an assurance from the state on their demands, which include compensation and a job for those families who lost their kin in the February agitation and withdrawal of cases against innocent people arrested during the stir.

On Saturday, over two dozen protesters reached the Surewala Chowk in Uklana town of Hisar district and tried to block the national highway. Hisar SP Ashwin Shenvi said, “It is a strategic location. Protesters did not have permission for their protest and when we asked them to vacate the road, they refused. Then we detained 33 protesters. They were released later.”

On May 27, the Jind police had registered a sedition case against Malik and 125 others for allegedly threatening peace and communal harmony in the state by instigating people to launch a fresh quota agitation. However, he has not been arrested till date.
