Ex-cook arrested in murder case
New Delhi: As reported by TOI, the former cook of a farmhouse in Chhattarpur in south Delhi did turn out to be involved in the dacoity and murder there on Thursday. The 36-year-old cook wsas arrested from an automobile factory in Gurgaon on Saturday. Phone records showed he had been in touch with the leader of the burglars around the time the incident took place.
The recovery from the burglars of a train ticket from Muzaffarpur in Bihar to Delhi had alerted the police to the possible involvement of Shatrughan, who lives in the Bihar city like the men who had broken into the farmhouse and killed Rohan Gupta, the businessman son of the family.
Shatrughan was working in the canteen at the car factory after his employment was terminated by the Guptas following an argument over salary and bonus last Diwali. Slapped by Rohan then, he had held a grudge against the family ever since.
“Call records showed Shatrughan talking with gang leader Vinod Sahni 5-10 minutes before the heist, making his involvement a possibility,” said a senior police officer. The cook was traced to the Gurgaon factory and arrested on Saturday by a team led by Nupur Prasad, additional DCP (South).
Shatrughan had briefed the four men about the entry and exits of the farmhouse and taken them on a recce of the area two days before the incident. He had been present at the farmhouse on Thursday, but had left soon after the others gained entry to the premises. “Shatrughan planned the dacoity for a month,” said the officer. “We have sought the help of Bihar Police to check his antecedents.”
A gun used in the robbery was also traced to Muzaffarpur. A case under the Arms Act and Section 396 of IPC has been registered.
