Bail to woman held for driving drunk, biting cops

Mumbai: Architecture student Gauri Bhide (21) and two of her friends, arrested for drunk-driving and abusing cops, was produced before a court on Friday and granted bail for Rs 15,000 each. Bhide was driving while drunk and drove her car onto a divider and then a pavement. The car broke down and Bhide failed to restart it. Cops took the three to the police station, where Bhide allegedly bit two women constables on the hand, pushed another one and pulled off the wires of computers.
“We had also detained a 17-year-old.
He was produced before a juvenile justice court which released him on bail on Thursday itself,“ said a police officer.
The accident occurred near Poddar Hospital, Worli, around 2am on Thursday. The four occupants of the car were returning after dinner from a Worli restaurant. Near the hospital junction, Bhide lost control of the car. People gathered around the car after it came to a halt and someone called the police.
A police team, including a few women constables, arrived at the spot and asked the car's occupants to alight. After coming out of the car, Bhide allegedly abused the police personnel and attacked them. All four were taken to the Worli police station. While Bhide was booked for drunk driving and assaulting cops, the others were booked for damaging public property .
Bhinde didn't calm down even after reaching the police station. “She pulled out several wires connected to computers at the police station,“ said a police officer. The police sent the youngsters to JJ Hospital for a medical examination.Their blood reports showed they were drunk beyond permissible limits for driving.The car has been seized.
