APCC president Dutta laid to rest in Sivasagar

People from all walks of life turned up to bid adieu to veteran Congress leader and APCC president Anjan Dutta whose mortal remains were laid to rest at his native place Sivasagar on Friday.

Dibrugarh: People from all walks of life turned up to bid adieu to veteran Congress leader and APCC president Anjan Dutta whose mortal remains were laid to rest at his native place Sivasagar on Friday.
The funeral was held on the grounds of the Gaurisagar block Congress office. Angkita, the eldest daughter of the 64-year-old leader, lit the funeral pyre at 5.30pm.
Also present were her two sisters, Amrita and Arpita. The veteran leader's funeral was accompanied with full state honours, including a 21-gun salute.
Among those present at the funeral were former CM Tarun Gogoi, AICC general secretary CP Joshi, Rajya Sabha Congress MP Ripun Bora and former forest minister Rakibul Hussain.
State forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma attended the ceremony on behalf of the government. Congress MLA and leader of the opposition in the state assembly, Debabrata Saikia, oversaw the ceremony.
Dutta's body was flown from Delhi to Jorhat on a special aircraft and received by senior Congress leaders. From there, it was taken to his birthplace.
