Activists of the CPI(M)-led Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Workers Union(APAWU) staged a demonstration in front of the Prakasam Bhavan here on Friday in protest against alleged use of machines and irregularities in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

Leading the protest, APAWU secretary V.Venkateswarulu contended that machines were used at the behest of ruling Telugu Desam Party leaders in some places and money drawn in some mandals on the names who had not worked. He demanded an inquiry and action against those found guilty.

Communist Party of India(Marxist) district secretary P. Anjaneyulu urged the Centre to increase the number of working days per each worker to 200 and payment per day to Rs. 250 taking into account price rise.

Though the State Government promised payment of Rs. 2,100 for every water harvesting structure dug by villagers, the payment had not been released by the District Water Management Agency(DWMA), alleged APAWU district secretary K. Anjaneyulu.
