Police have identified the victim of a Woolwich Township crash as a man from Elora.

23-year-old Shawn Beam died after a head-on crash east of Elmira on Northfield Drive, north of Line 86.  The collision occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say Beam lost control of the car he was driving, crashed into a dump truck and rolled into the ditch.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  The dump truck driver had only minor injuries.

Police say they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, but speed may have been.

Speaking Friday while at the scene of the crash, Beam's mother Christine described her son as tall, blonde and handsome.  She said he loved to travel and was interning as an electrical engineer.

A funeral for Shawn Beam is being planned for Tuesday.  His mother asks that people donate blood in Shawn’s name.
