Entertainment » OtherPosted at: Jun 17 2016 10:03PM Minister denies starvation death, opposition says shame shamePatna, Jun 17 (UNI) Amid media reports about death of a person due to starvation at Rajgir in Nalanda, Opposition today said it was a shame for the Nitish Kumar government while Food and Consumer Protection Minister Madan Sahni refused to accept it as a case of starvation. Mr Sahni, reacting over the media report on death of one Ramsoorat Manjhi at Rajgir, said that district administration had investigated the matter and come to conclusion that it was not a case of starvation death. "Post-mortem examination of the body confirmed that there was undigested food in stomach and death was due to illness and not starvation", Mr Sahni said adding that doctors who performed the post-mortem said that no symptom of starvation death was found in the case. The Minister quoting the doctors, said that blood clot was found in the heart and certainly it was not due to starvation. District Magistrate of Nalanda said that Manjhi died last night due to cardiac stroke. The deceased was a ragpicker and he was only bread owner of the family, he stated. Chhotu, son of Manjhi, said his father had not eaten any food for the past 20 days and died last night. He said that starvation was the cause of death of his father. Senior BJP leader and state party spokesman Binod Narain Jha said the Nitish Kumar government had failed to execute the scheme of the Centre for providing subsidised food grains to the poor. The Centre was sensitive to ensure that subsidised foodgrains reaches every poor but it was the pathetic failure on the part of the Nitish government in executing the scheme which led to such shameful incidents, he added. Mr Jha said that one Jago Manjhi had also died of starvation in Sheikhpura district of Bihar in March this year. Despite such glaring examples of the failure in execution of schemes to provide relief to the poor, the Nitish government had not taken any concrete step to improve its delivery system, he lamented.
