12-year-old killed in road accident

KOLKATA: Road accident snubbed the life out of a 12-year-old girl on Friday morning. Sneha Shaw was on way to school when she was hit by a mini truck. The class V student bled to death on way to hospital. The accident happened right in front of mayor’s gate at Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) headquarters and a stone’s throw away from New Market Police station.
Sneha a student of Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya in Mechuabazar would take a train ride from Esplanade till MG Road and then walk to the school.On Monday also the girl left home on 4/1 Uma Das Lane off SN Banerjee Road, for school around 10.20 am with school friends Priti Sharma and Mandira Ghosh who live in the same locality. The trio was walking to Esplanade Metro station and had reached in front of KMC when she was hit by the mini truck.
“Sneha was walking ahead of us as she was worried that we were running late for school. We saw a truck rushing towards her and then the next thing we saw was Sneha lying in a pool of blood oozing from her head. Then I heard some people rushing to stop the truck from feeling,” recounted Priti, also a class V student who is still in a state of shock.
The two girls tried to pull up Snehaand called her out. Getting no response they rushed back to Sneha’s house about 300 meters away to inform her family. A group of men and women from the locality rushed to the spot. By the time family reached the spot police had picked up Neha to take her to the hospital. But the little girl bled to death on way to SSKM hospital.
Daughter of a phuchkawala, Sneha was the oldest of four siblings. Father Ramjiu Shaw who sells phuchka in front of the KMC headquarters, despite his economic hurdles wanted the best education possible for Sneha. Though the school has a Hindi section too Sneha was put in the English medium section.
A mob tried to set the vehicle of fire but police aborted the attempt. Police arrested driver of the matador van.
