Remo D’Souza : I can also make movie on naagins or daayans, if people want
Choreographer-director Remo D'Souza, is making a comeback on the small screen as the super judge of the second season of Dance Plus.
The handsome hunk was in the capital to promote his new upcoming dance reality show. In an exclusive interview with TV Times, Remo D'Souza tells more about his show and how he can make a movie on naagins or daayans some day.

How is this season different from the previous one? Remo: Firstly, Dance plus is the only dance reality show in India with an entire panel of captains who rose to fame through their dancing skills. The show will introduce audiences to new trends and evolved dance forms through solo, duo and group performers. Stepping up to some undiscovered performances, the show will redefine dance thereby breaking stereotype.
Which is the one dance form which you want to bring it to India? Remo: Ballet is one form which I really want Indians to practice it.
How Michael Jackson has been your inspiration? Remo:I was 14-15 when I first saw Michael Jackson dance and I thought 'How can he move like that?'I started following him. We didn't have TV in those days and could access videos on VCR. But who in Gujarat would keep a MJ tape. After a year or so, I got the that tape on rent. The rent was Rs. 25, which was too much at that time. That is how I started dancing and told my parents that I don't want to study but dance. Initially, they were scared but later on they supported me in my struggle.

My journey in Bollywood has been quite filmy as it includes sleeping on railway platforms to teaching dance for a living. The journey has taught me a lot and I am very grateful that all that happened with me. It helped me in becoming a more stronger man.
Shakti Mohan, Dharmesh Yalende or Punit Pathak. Who is your favorite student and why? Remo: All three of them are my favourite and I love them all from the core of my heart. It’s really tough to choose one. Dharmesh respects me a lot, his dedication towards work is incredible. Punit is known for his Hip Hop and Contemporary. He is very talented. It’s a plus for us and he brings a lot of new ideas in the show. There is a lot which we can learn from him. And Shakti, name says everything.
What is your dream project? Remo: I have made movies on education and dance, have directed and choreographed legends of Bollywood. Now, I want to make a movie on martial arts. I myself am a black belt, so I am looking forward to do something on this.
Do you think international dance forms are overshadowing Indian Dances? Remo: Absolutely! I have experienced it. When I was doing a reality show, and we did a week for Indian dance forms, the TRP (television rating points) used to fall down, and then the next week when we did full international dances, the TRP went up.
You have worked with both Madhuri Dixit and Karan Johar. How was the experience? Remo: They are very talented and experienced people. Madhuri Dixit for me is a Goddess.
Who do you call the 'Dancing Queen' of Bollywood and why? Remo: Deepika Padukone is a versatile actress. For me, she is the Dancing Queen of Bollywood. She is a complete dancer. I have worked with her in Bajirao Mastani and she has done justice to my work.
What are your views about the recent trend of Indian television? Many paranormal activities are happening these days on small screen. Remo: I find these naagins, daayans very funny. It's more of comedy, they are not able to justify the horror on Indian television. But people are loving it.
Will you ever make a movie or a TV show on paranormal activities? Remo: We are here to entertain the audience. If people are loving it, they enjoy watching these naagins and daayan. Then obviously, I will make something of this sort.
You are always seen judging dance reality shows, do you see yourself in future as a small screen director?
Remo: I am open to everything, anything which will interest me, I will do it. I want to try dance fiction on TV.
Shakti Mohan, Dharmesh Yelande and Punit Pathak will accompany Remo, the super judge, in the show as captains. Raghav Juyal, popularly known by his stage name 'Cockroaz', returns as the host on Dance plus. The show will premier on July 2 at 8 pn on Star Plus.
