New private schools may not be permitted in RR district!

The Ranga Reddy district administration is planning to discourage people from setting up private schools in the district from this year with strong opposition from people’s representatives of the district.

The indication for this was given by Transport Minister, P. Mahender Reddy, who represents the Tandur Assembly constituency, at the general body meeting of the district, half of which falls under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Several ZPTC and MPTC members wanted an end to new private schools in the district as the Government wanted to encourage admitting children to Government schools. On a vociferous demand the Minister said the request would be considered.

The issue started with the high fee structure in private schools opposed by several members and there was a lot of support to the fee issue from all the members. Denial of permission to new schools was raised in the melee and the Minister agreed to consider the request, an official revealed.

There are around 2,700 private schools in the district apart from 2264 Government schools.

A senior official, however, revealed that not many private managements were willing to start new schools this year given the previous year’s demand. A number of schools that started operations a few years ago are now applying for recognition. Interestingly, city’s top private schools are geographically located in Ranga Reddy district though they are part of the city, and many branded and international schools have showed interest in establishing schools in the district due to availability of land and other facilities.

District Educational Officer (DEO) G. Ramesh said that from this year English medium would be offered in 382 Government schools starting from class 1.
