Barring some minor complications and doubts over the transfer of mandals between the existing district and Kamareddy, the proposed new district with the same town as its headquarters is almost final. The district administration led by Collector Yogitha Rana after laborious exercise with all departmental heads prepared a detailed report finalising Kamareddy as the new district. The report is to be submitted to the government on June 20.
The new district would be formed with four Assembly constituencies - Kamareddy, Yellareddy, Jukkal and Banswada, and 19 mandals. However, people of Nagireddypet mandal in Yellareddy constituency want to be in Kamareddy district instead of being transferred to Medak, while residents of Varni and Kotagiri mandals of Banswada constituency prefer to continue in Nizamabad district rather than in the proposed new district of Kamareddy because of their proximity.
Different gram panchayats from these mandals already passed resolutions on their preferences and submitted them to the administration. Since the government already made it clear that it would not go against the gram panchayat resolutions, they may be honoured during the final decision. On the other hand, clarity on the formation of about 10 new mandals and also the Banswada revenue division is still eluding.
Joint Collector A. Ravinder Reddy said that as far as formation of Kamareddy as the new district is concerned, there is no dispute at all. The issue is just of transfer of some villages and a couple of mandals between the two. Temporarily district collector office and other offices would be accommodated in the Residential High School building which was newly built with an amount of Rs.9 crore. The building has 65,000 square feet office space, he said.
With Kamareddy, an old municipal town with over 1.20 lakh population being located on National Highway-44, and closer to Hyderabad (112 kilometers), it would perfectly serve the purpose, said Chintala Gopi, a businessman in the town. That apart, it has a plenty of government land for the construction of offices, he said.
