MBABANE – Sihlangu players’ two consecutive COSAFA Castle Cup will see them net E6 000 in win bonuses each.

The players are paid E2 000 win bonus per match and after beating Seychelles 4-0 and Madagascar 1-0 the team have increased their bonus net as they are also owed E2 000 each for the massive AFCON 2017 qualifiers.

The money could reach E8000 per player if they beat Zambia on Sunday in the quarter finals of the COSAFA Castle Cup in Namibia.
Already star player Felix Badenhorst has netted over E7 000 in individual prizes from the tournament, after being twice named Man of the Match against Seychelles and Madagascar respectively.

The players’ win bonuses were introduced following government decision to inject E5 Million grant to the team that has now increased to E8.7 Million.

However, the FA was up to last week still waiting for the first quarter grant from government.
The FA Communications and Marketing Manager Muzi Radebe said issues on bonuses were handled by the office of the CEO.

Mngomezulu is currently in Namibia for the COSAFA Castle Cup.
On Wednesday night Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David Cruiser Ngcamphalala described Sihlangu’s qualification to the quarter finals as a bargaining tool for the ministry to request for the increased sports budget from government.

“It is good to see that the increased funding for the national team has yielded positive results and it surely makes it easier for us to negotiate for more,” he said on Wednesday soon after Sihlangu’s victory.

Meanwhile, Sihlangu has by reaching the quarter finals put themselves in a position to win at least E75 000 that is competed for, but quarter finals losers.
The tournament award champions E500 000 for the champions and E250 000 for runners up.
One player who is line to strike it richer is Felix Badenhorst whose five goals in the competition has placed him at the pole position for the E20 000 Top Goal Scorer Award in the tournament. He is closely followed by Gabaldhin Mhango of Malawi who before last night’s decider against Lesotho had scored three goals in the competition.
Sihlangu entertain Zambia on Sunday in the quarter finals, the second meeting at this stage in the competition. The last meeting was 15 years ago at Somhlolo National Stadium, when Sihlangu won 4-3 on penalties.
