Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu has asked the Congress and INLD leadership to stop politicising the Jat reservation issue to further their vested interests. He remarked that the present-day agitation by Jats was not aimed at getting reservation but had become a politically sponsored programme.

“These parties could not ensure reservation for Jats while these were in power. Now, these parties are trying to garner Jats’ sympathy by extending support to their agitation,” the minister said at a press conference here today.

He advised the Congress and INLD leaders to support the efforts of the state government to ensure the provision of reservation for Jats instead of misleading the community members. He expressed apprehension that certain cpposition leaders could re-ignite violence to camouflage the issue.

Coming down heavily on two-time Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the BJP leader said as he (Hooda) was not able to accept his defeat after two consecutive terms, he instigated the February agitation. Now, he is apprehensive of imprisonment and hence backing the fresh stir, Abhimanyu stated.

The minister maintained that the state government was doing its best to support the case of reservation for Jats at the court and had recommended the inclusion of Jat quota in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.

Chandigarh : Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday said the government had done its job by enacting a law on reservation. As the matter is pending in the court, everyone must cooperate to get the stay vacated. The state government is also working in this direction, the CM added.
