Patna: The Khagaul-Phulwarisharif road has become a death trap for two-wheeler riders, motorists and pedestrians. Six persons have been killed and several injured by the speeding trucks on this road in the last one month, but no effort has been made to either deploy traffic police in adequate numbers or check recurrence of accidents or control speed of the heavy vehicles.
Two women, Usha and Rashmi of Mitra Mandal Colony, had a miraculous escape on Wednesday when a speeding truck dashed against their vehicle near Police Colony Mor at Anisabad. Though they suffered minor injuries, the car was badly damaged in the accident.
The residents of Anisabad, Phulwari and Khagaul say thousands of heavy vehicles pass through this road on the NH-98 and cause traffic snarls every day. Heavy vehicles coming from Khagaul canal end create a jam right from Khagaul end to Anisabad Mor causing much hardships to pedestrians, motorists and the two-wheeler riders, they say.
The road jam starts from 5am and continues till late in the evening. Patients visiting the Mahavir Cancer Sansthan and AIIMS Patna are often get stuck in traffic snarls. Recently, doctors of AIIMS Patna said they were unable to reach the hospital on time due to chronic traffic snarls on the road.
The residents of Mitra Mandal locality said they had urged district administration several times to get a permanent solution to the traffic jam which had become a regular feature here, but to no avail.
