Jorhat: A 13-year-old child from the Nazira area in upper Assam's Sivasagar district has gone missing from Dimapur in Nagaland. Police have launched an investigation but are still clueless about the whereabouts of the missing child in the neighbouring state.
Superintendent of Police (Sivasagar) Anand Prakash Tiwari on Wednesday said, "Three children in the age group of 12-14 from the Nazira area in the district went to Dimapur in search of work in some private companies a few months ago.
But they reportedly went missing there. We had launched an operation and successfully rescued two of them, but one has still not been rescued. Our operation is on but we are still clueless on the whereabouts of the missing child."
He added, "We are working with Nagaland Police to rescue the missing child and they are providing all required support. We hope the child will be rescued soon."
The missing child was Bikash Borgohain of Gargaon under Simoluguri police station in the district. Bikash was a student of Class VI at a local school in Simoluguri. His father Bibhash Borgohain is a businessman by profession.
On June 8, police rescued a child - Biswajit Karmakar of Nazira town - from Dimapur after he was staying there for over three months. Biswajit was a student of the Nazira Bahumukhi Higher Secondary School and was allegedly taken away by some unidentified persons to Nagaland when he had stepped out of the school campus.
In 2015, another child went missing from the Simoluguri area in the district and police rescued him from Dimapur a few months later.
