Hazra, a former lecturer of the central university, had gone to the campus on Tuesday to hold talks with the vice-chancellor in regard to his job.
The university had fired Hazra last June for taking unauthorised leave.
On Tuesday, Hazra's father accompanied him to the campus, but they were blocked by some employees of the university. Ironically, they also belonged to the ruling party.

Hazra had alleged that he was beaten up by some workers of the university under the leadership of Gagan Sarkar, who is learned to be the leader of the university worker's committee run by Trinamool.
"I was even forced to leave the campus without meeting senior officials," Hazra said.
Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday sought a report on the incident.
Trinamool sources said that Mamata too has sought a detailed report from party leaders like Education Minister Partha Chattarjee.
The growing incidents of infighting among the ruling Trinamool has caused much discomfiture for Mamata.
The Bolpur incident has stoked her fury.
