Drowning turns out to be murder, 2 held
Chennai: What initially appeared to be a case of drowning that claimed the life of a 40-year-old driver RK Pet near Tiruttani turned out to be a murder, with doctors on Wednesday stating that an autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
Investigators said they had arrested K Nagappan, 33, a friend of G Kumar, who locals found dead in a lake near RK Pet on Monday.
They picked him up after some locals said they had last seen the pair together.
Nagappan initially denied that he killed Kumar but, under interrogation, admitted to the crime. Based on his statement, police also arrested his friend S Vijayakumar, 37, for the murder.
Nagappan said he killed Kumar by bashing in his head with a boulder.
He said he had developed a relationship with Kumar's wife. Kumar recently had a fight with Nagappan after he learned about the affair. Kumar nonetheless continued to go out with Nagappan and his friends for a drink on weekends.
Nagappan hatched a plan to eliminate Kumar and roped in his friend Vijayakumar to help him. Nagappan invited Kumar through Vijayakumar for a drink on Sunday night near the lake in which passersby found Kumar's body the next day.

"After drinking for some time, Kumar and Nagappan had a heated argument. Nagappan took a boulder and hit him on the head," an investigating officer said. "He then dumped the body in the lake to mislead police."
The RK Pet police registered a case of murder against Nagappan and Vijayakumar.
A court has remanded them in judicial custody in Puzhal Central Prison.
