Purac Opens Plant in the Netherlands

Purac (Lincolnshire, IL), a manufacturer of natural lactic acid and lactates, has opened a new calcium lactate manufacturing plant in Gorinchem, the Netherlands. The plant, which became fully operational in May 1999, doubles the company's calcium lactate production capacity. Production in the new facility is fully automated and is carried out in accordance with the latest pharmaceutical guidelines and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).

Calcium lactate is used in a wide range of pharmaceutical and technical applications and in many segments of the food industry. It provides calcium enrichment in products such as fruit juices, milk, sport and health drinks, diet foods and infant formulas. The ingredient also is used as an excipient and in preparations for calcium supplements.

The new plant enables Purac to meet the growing worldwide demand for calcium. In addition to the required increase in capacity, the plant also offers flexibility in product properties such as powder density, particle size and moisture content without changing the chemical composition. This flexibility offers customized calcium lactate variations to customers.
