Nike Ardilla’s life story to be made into biopic

The life of 1990s sweetheart Nike Ardilla will be made into a biopic by Focus Cinema, a new production house in Bandung.
Wahyu Saputra, a representative of Focus Cinema, told Antara on Tuesday in Bandung that the film, Suara Hati: Catatan Seorang Sahabat would tell the story of Nike’s career and is slated to premiere at the end of 2016.
The idea of the biopic was fielded by Bunda Atun, who used to be Nike’s manager. The movie will take Bunda Atun's point of view, and tells her story when she accompanied Nike through her journey. The word sahabat (close friend) in the title refers to Bunda Atun.

Wahyu, who writes the scenario of the movie, said, “We want to make this film because Nike’s story isn’t only very interesting but also because the story came from Nike’s closest friend. She knows what Nike was like. This is interesting and challenging for us.”
The film is currently at the casting stage, which began on June 8. Wahyu said the open casting was free and open to the public.
“We are looking for new talents. Besides someone to play Nike’s character, we are also looking for actors and actresses to portray Melly Goeslow, Ari Sihasale, Gugun Gondrong, Mayang Sari, Rima Melati and many of her friends,” he said. Filming is scheduled to commence in September and will take place in Bandung, Jakarta and Bali.

Bunda Atun said all profits from this film would go toward building an orphanage in Ciamis, West Java, where Nike was laid to rest. “This is based on her wish and dreams. She wanted to build an orphanage but that is yet to be realized,” she said.
Raden Rara Nike Ratnadilla, aka Nike Ardilla, a popular singer, actress and model, was killed in a car accident on March 19, 1995, on Jl. RE Martadinata, Bandung, West Java. She was 19 years old. Her car crashed into a concrete road divider. Nike died on impact. Many theories surround the accident and there has been no clear explanation regarding the crash. (msj/asw)
