The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty surged over a percentage point on Wednesday after Union Cabinet approved new civil aviation policy and merger of five associaties with SBI amid firm Asian markets. Sensex closed 330.63 points up at 26,726.34, while Nifty 50 index settled 97.75 points up at 8,206.60.

Emami Infrastructure locked at upper circuit limit on the back of Calcutta High Court approval for merger of company’s subsidiaries with itself. The scrip closed 20 per cent up at Rs 50.10.

Aviation stocks like Jet Airways, SpiceJet, InterGlobe Aviation and Taneja Aerospace & Aviation gained after the government approved its long-awaited Civil Aviation Policy, which contains various measures to boost the country’s under-penetrated aviation sector and boost connectivity across towns.

Shares of State Bank of India’s subsidiaries such as State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Travancore and State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur hit upper circuit on Wednesday after the Cabinet on Wednesday approved the takeover by State Bank of India (SBI) of several subsidiaries in a first move to consolidate the country’s struggling public sector banks.

Punjab National Bank (PNB), the nation’s second biggest state-run lender, on Tuesday declared a list of 913 wilful defaulters, including Kingfisher Airlines and NAFED, with total outstanding dues of Rs 11,486 crore.

Unitech shares plunged after a Delhi court on Tuesday ordered initiation of proceedings against real estate major and its top bosses in a case of alleged cheating lodged by an investor for not giving him possession of a flat booked in 2006 in Greater Noida.

Godrej Industries’ subsidiary Godrej Agrovet Ltd’s board has approved monetisation of its 100 acre land in Bengaluru through joint development with group company Godrej Properties. Shares of Godrej Properties gained over 2 per cent intraday.

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd shares fell after the company on Tuesday said HDFC Mutual Fund has trimmed its stake in the company by 2.01 per cent to 7.20 per cent by sales shares worth 168 crore in the open market.

Sharees of microfinance lender Satin Creditcare Network Limited gained nearly 10 per cent after it said it plans to raise Rs 5,000 crore in the current fiscal to expand growth.
