Surat: Police arrested a 30-year-old labourer from Limbayat area of the city on Tuesday for allegedly stealing cash, diamonds and jewellery worth Rs 65 lakh from an apartment in Delhi. The accused worked as domestic help and had been asked to carry out the theft by the agency through which he got the job.
Mohan alias Gutka Bholaram Hajra, a native of Maheshiyadigi village of Devri in Giridih district of Jharkhand, was arrested from Limbayat area of the city.
Hajra had allegedly carried out the theft in April 2016 at a businessman's apartment in Rajouri Garden within a month of being hired as domestic help.
Hajra earlier worked in Surat in the textile market as a labourer from 2012 to 2014. He later went to Delhi and met Kamdev Yadav in 2015. Yadav told him to wait for some time and promised to call him soon if a job opportunity arose. Yadav was running an agency that provided domestic help in houses of Delhi.
Yadav contacted Hajra in February and offered him job as domestic help in the residence of Rajiv Sahani, a rare herbs trader who operated from Chandni Chowk. Hajra told the police that he was told by Yadav to steal cash and valuables after some time. Sahani had withdrawn cash, diamonds and jewellery from his bank locker for a marriage function in the family. Hajra decamped with the valuables soon after and handed them over to Yadav and his relatives in Delhi. He then came to the city.
"We got information about the suspect and arrested him. He will be handed over to Delhi Police," said B M Parmar, PI, Limbayat PS . tnn
